Crack down on beach littering is long overdue

Now, nuisance at tourist places could land offenders behind bars - The Goan Everyday - August 2, 2025. Now, that is a good move on the part of the government trying to keep tourist spaces clean. There is no doubt that tourists just do not care about throwing trash, including empty glass bottles, on the beach. It is indeed a gory sight to see wrappers and other trash scattered all over the beach. And the unhygienic cooking on beaches.

This is a common sight also on the beaches in cities like Mumbai, where the trash remains embedded forever in the rocks placed at the end of the shore. We must understand that keeping public spaces clean is the responsibility of the public. Let the authorities crack the whip and hope sanity prevails among the public.
