Double standards in Goa’s legal circles

A prominent niz Goenkar lawyer has recently been vociferous in opposing mega housing projects in municipal areas. However, it is deeply concerning that the same lawyer is reportedly serving as legal counsel for select North Indian builders constructing luxury villas with swimming pools in coastal villages”projects that appear to be in clear violation of local regulations.

These developments are not just legal concerns but environmental ones as well. The construction of such villas places immense strain on already limited water and power resources. 

It is disheartening to witness individuals from within the community being associated with activities that contribute to the degradation of Goa. Such apparent double standards erode public trust and raise serious questions about accountability and integrity.

Citizens must remain vigilant and informed about those who take public positions while privately enabling questionable practices. Goa’s future depends on collective responsibility, and it is imperative that short-term gains do not override long-term sustainability and the interests of its people.
