Downside of MLALAD scheme

The governmet announcement of MLA Local Area Development scheme of 2.5 crores annually for development of their constituencies must sound like some good news. Other state governments also have such schemes. One wonders, however, the need for such schemes, in fact, these should be reviewed regularly. Every city or village have local authorities who are responsible for the development of their wards or villages.

For instance, cities Mumbai have a municipal civic body with officers in charge of every ward. The civic bodies in every city have their budget. Ideally, these officers should be held responsible for the development of their respective wards without discrimination or favouritism. Similarly, in the case of the MP development schemes. Let’s get practical.

There is a precariously tilted wall in the lane which leads from the INOX building to SGPDA market which is a serious threat to passersby and vehicles. The dilapidated and loosely mortared laterite structure could collapse any minute on some unsuspecting individual if not repaired or demolished asap. Are the city fathers waiting for tragedy to strike before they wake up from their slumber?
