A Member of the Legislative Assembly has suggested during the ongoing session that Goa’s taxi drivers should learn to fly drones. He said that the future of Goa is in drone taxis.
Our elected representatives need to make suggestions which are practical and stop talking through the hat. Indeed drones have an important role to play in the field of agriculture, search and rescue, disaster response, wildlife monitoring healthcare, etc.
However, having drone taxis as a mode of public-transport, is beyond one’s imagination. Even several advanced countries may not have this futuristic mode of transport.
The immediate concern of Goans is the pathetic condition of our roads which are full of potholes. Their size and number is increasing due to incessant rains.
The bad conditions of the roads have a negative impact on our health and the condition of our vehicles and in many instances can lead to accidents which at times can prove fatal. The Assembly is in session for only ten days and time is precious.
Making such vague suggestions of drone taxis does rob the Assembly session of vital time. When the taxi drivers are reluctant to install meters in their taxis imagine having training for them to drive drone taxis.
The working of the Assembly costs a lot for the State exchequer. Hence there should be meaningful discussion.
