It is learnt that the Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) in association with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is organizing a ‘healthy food and cultural programme’ in Panaji on October23. The programme called ‘Eat Right Mela’ reportedly revolves around the idea of promoting nutritious meals and promoting local cuisines to cater to the gastronomic needs of the people with emphasis on eating the right meals which is good for health. It is understood that Panaji has been shortlisted among the 75 cities in the country to organize the ‘Eat Right Mela’. Eating a healthy, balanced diet is one of the most important things one can do to protect one’s health. In fact, up to 80% of premature heart disease and stroke can be prevented by eating a healthy diet and being physically active. A healthy diet is essential for good health and nutrition. It protects one against many chronic non-communicable diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Eating a variety of foods and consuming less salt, sugars and saturated and industrially-produced trans-fat, are essential for a healthy diet.
