The editorial ‘Hate trumps love this Christmas’ (The Goan Everyday December 27, 2021) explains the present mood against Christians in the country. What we are witnessing this Christmas is not what God intended. How does one explain the continuing attacks on the Christian community in recent times? Churches are being vandalised and faithful attacked under the bogey of conversions. The Karnataka assembly passed the controversial anti-conversion bill. Hate speeches against minorities, specifically Muslims and Christians, seem to have become the order of the day. This is frightening. Where are we headed? All along our leaders have been harping on how diverse this country is. According to our constitution, India is a multicultural, multi-religious, secular nation where everyone is equal. I think that says it all. This madness, this culture of hate must stop. What we are witnessing is a sure recipe for disaster. Strict action must be taken against those spreading hate and vandalising religious places. We need to preserve our ‘unity in diversity’ at all costs! Love must trump hate, no matter whichever faith one follows.
