Facelift for DB Marg, but will it stand the test of time?

Dayanand Bandodkar road has recently been given a fresh coat of tar and has become smooth as silk to drive on. Hopefully this asphalt mixture is of good quality.

However, the level of footpath has fallen below the level of road and the drainage system has also taken a beating as it is completely blocked and will not be able carry the storm water to River Mandovi unless it is cleared.

Also, the chamber covers fitted with metallic plates all along the main road are being changed and a lot of garbage, sand and other material is unintentionally getting accumulated in the chambers.

Another issue is installation of steel dividers can cause accidents when high speed vehicles travelling with high beams blind the incoming vehicular traffic especially two wheelers. Earlier, the plastic beacons which were installed were more safer and a better choice.

RTO and other government authorities should see that roads must have proper illumination and must be fitted with speed limits boards and cameras at prominent places and not on electricity poles.

We only hope the beautification works along the DB Marg will stand the test of time and will not lead to flooding and other adversities in the monsoons.
