India's indigenous Tejas Mk1A fighter aircraft programme has come under scrutiny after Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) filed a criminal complaint against a Hyderabad-based supplier accused of submitting 199 forged test reports linked to components supplied for the fighter jet programme. HAL's quality control team allegedly uncovered the irregularities during an audit, prompting an FIR and a police investigation into the matter. According to the complaint, the supplier allegedly submitted fabricated quality and testing documents for aerospace components supplied between 2022 and 2023. HAL has stated that the issue was detected through internal quality checks and that the matter is being investigated to determine the extent of the forgery and any impact on the supply chain. The development comes as the Tejas Mk1A programme is already facing pressure over delivery delays to the Indian Air Force, with the Defence Ministry recently reviewing progress and considering accountability measures related to delayed aircraft deliveries. Things are seem to be very murky in new India!
