First smart, now Panaji to turn into a solar city

Our honourable  Chief Minister Pramod Sawant declared with much gusto last week that Panaji will soon be transformed into a 100 per cent renewable energy run city with the use of rooftop solar plants, net metering and bio- methanation plants extracting energy from waste.

Sawant also said for Panaji to go 100 per cent solar, people will have to generate solar power or purchase it.

At present the total solar power capacity through government and private plants is only 0.5 MW while the electricity demand for the capital is 128 MW.

There was also talk about going in for a PPP model and reducing carbon emissions to net zero by 2050. All this seems very laudable but will this be achieved given the way the government functions?

We have already seen the mega scam which has been foisted upon us in the name of 'Smart City ' Panaji with zero accountability of the city fathers and the mantris for the humungous mess.

I see the seeds of another scam in this project. CM Sir, first give us Smart City, only then move on to 'Solar city’, simply conjuring up fancy titles to show that your sarkar is working won't do.
