Many people from Talaulim, Durbhat, Adpai, Agapur and even Queula visit Durbhat for buying fish on regular basis. Even people returning home from work via Adpai and Durbhat ferries from Verna and Vasco derive this benefit.
However it is rather unfortunate that there is no suitable market premises for the local fisherfolk where they can sell their fish under one roof.
At Durbhat and the adjacent village of Adpai too we come across fisherfolk selling fish along the main road. The road being too narrow, the practice tends to be a risk for their precious lives, more so, when four wheeler vehicles proceed in opposite directions at one time.
Over the years, above dangerous practice continues with great ease. However, the local village panchayat viz the VP of Adpai-Durbhat has not yet realised the matter with the seriousness it deserves.
Even the local MLA Sudin Dhavalikar has not initiated any favourable steps in this direction. The local fisherfolk depending solely on this trade for last several years must be assured safety on a permanent basis.
It is the urgent necessity for this VP to provide a suitable fish market at this jurisdiction at a safer location where this community can continue their trade comfortably. Let us hope that prompt positive steps in this important matter would follow in the interest of local fisherfolks.
