While enjoying the sun, sand, water and fun, we should also be cautious and take steps to protect ourselves from heat related illnesses. People experience heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The heat exhaustion signs are headache, nausea, dizziness, weakness and clammy skin. To stay safe and healthy during the warm summer months, make sure you are well hydrated, wear sunscreen, stay in cool place under the shade, stay out of the sun as much as possible and monitor your blood sugar levels if you are diabetic. Make sure to rest if you' re feeling dizzy, focus your activity during the cooler parts of the day and moderate your activity levels when it gets hot and humid. Drink plenty of water around 3 litres per day or according to your urine colour. Eat light meals, avoid hot tea, coffee, energy drinks, soft drinks and limit your alcohol. While we are relaxing in the air conditioning, cool breeze or poolside, we should also remember and take care of birds around us and provide them fresh water for drinking and bathing in the shade and don't forget to change the water daily.
