Most of the roads in the State are filled with potholes and vehicles are seen dancing in and out of these potholes. Due to the monsoons, potholes are filled with contaminated water which stagnates.
And stagnated water breeds mosquitoes, and can cause umpteen diseases. Even if a rider tries to ride from the edge of the roads, to skip potholes there is a greater chance of him falling due to slippery roads.
Everywhere you will find these potholes as a rangoli design filled with contaminated water. Who is responsible for repairing these roads?
These potholes act as speed breakers to lower the speed but they also are capable of causing fatal as well as serious accidents.
Potholes cause traffic to move slowly. Since people drive slowly a lot of fuel is consumed and can damage the vehicles as well. Again, this would have not happened if potholes weren't there.
Moreover, the bigger potholes can hold up traffic as it’s tough to judge the depth of the pothole during monsoons. Sometimes we may not even be able to spot it.
Therefore, it is pertinent to drive carefully under such conditions. The government and the concerned authorities need take up tarring of the roads as soon as the rains subside.
