Glamorisation of accused raises concerns over reporting ethics

It has been observed recently that there is a trend to glorify accused individuals who have disgraced society by their actions, yet they receive wide coverage and remain in the limelight with a series of debates. The matter is reported almost daily as if it were a significant event. For instance, there was a case of a car accident leading to the death of three persons, and the issue was stretched out with daily updates, but now nobody is aware of it. Similarly, a young life was lost forever, and the perpetrator of this crime has also lost their career or life, though they will be out of jail after 15/20 years. The matter was given wide publicity with colour pictures as if there were a shortage of news.

Present-day politicians have become shameless and treat summons, arrest, and jail time not as a sin or a lowering of prestige, but as added qualifications for their political career. This helps them as a publicity stunt to remain in the limelight in almost all print and visual media.

There is no reason for reporting such incidents on a regular basis. Individuals who engage in noble and sincere social work for the betterment of society receive lesser coverage compared to those involved in crime, money laundering, looting, sexual abuse, and similar acts. It is hoped that restraint is observed in reporting such matters without undue publicity to the accused.
