Land encroachment is a punishable crime in Goa, covered under Indian laws as well as state regulations. The same applies to theft, domestic violence, fraud, vandalism, cybercrime, drug abuse and trafficking, trespassing, and traffic offences. Now, with the BJP Government in Goa reportedly rewarding encroachments to please certain groups (many of them from outside Goa, despite official claims), should we assume that other crimes can also be legalised if they bring in votes for the ruling party? Will this not turn Goa into a lawless state promoted by its own leaders?
Along with the ongoing freebie culture at taxpayers’ expense, how much further will politicians stoop just to secure votes through corrupt governance? Goans must realise that such actions by greedy and unscrupulous politicians will only push society towards deeper lawlessness. We already have examples from other countries, including our neighbours, where such decline has caused great harm.
