The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS) has reportedly constituted a special 3-member task force to address the issue and explore the establishment of dedicated shelter homes for stray dogs amid rising concerns over stray dog attacks and growing public unrest in parts of Goa. The move comes in the backdrop of a recent Supreme Court order directing authorities in Delhi and the National Capital Region to relocate stray dogs to shelter homes within eight weeks, following the tragic death of a six-year-old girl from rabbies. While the order applies specifically to Delhi NCR, it has triggered wider conversations across the country, including in Goa, about the urgent need for better management of stray dog population. I wholeheartedly would like to welcome this decision of the government but the big question is will this be the real beginning of a stray-free Goa or just another promise on paper? Anyway, I hope that the government will ignore the cries of all the so-called 'dog-lovers' and finally do something about this menace of stray dogs in the state because these abandoned dogs are practically known for creating a lot of nuisance for everyone.
