There are no words to describe the horrendous and gruesome mauling to death of a toddler at Ponda by a pack of 10“15 dogs (Toddler mauled to death by stray dogs in Ponda, TGE, Apr 19). Time and again, the print media has focused attention on the dangers of stray dogs attacking morning walkers, tourists on beaches, and children at play, who have been attacked and bitten by these aggressive dogs.
Unfortunately, the matter has been overlooked and played down by the government by diverting the gravity of the situation and handing over the matter to private enterprises for the vaccination and sterilisation of strays to reduce their numbers, which has served another purpose and proved futile.
It is therefore high time for the Goa government to take the bull by the horns and appoint some NGOs to round up each and every stray, and shift them to some far-off destination away from cities and towns, where these strays can be looked after and fed with love and care by animal lovers and the Animal Welfare Board. Enough is enough.
