Govt must hike grants for clay Ganesh idols

Chicalim panchayat took the initiative to immerse the POP made Ganesh idols in sea water after they found some idols floating in Chicalim area. The government has banned idols made of plaster of Paris as they do not dissolve in water easily. The people were requested to worship idols of clay as this gets immersed easily and dissolves in shorter period of time. The idols of Ganesh made from clay will give boost to local artists who are engaged in idol making tradition for years together which was started by their grandfathers. Any idol worshipped with true spirit and devotion will always be a true pooja and celebration. Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the biggest festival in Goa and people do celebrate festival for one and half days to eleven days. Hence the people should be careful and firm on worshiping idols made of clay and not any other materials which will affect water bodies like wells, lakes, seas, beaches etc. Government should also increase grants for such clay made idols and give local artists a boost to keep the tradition alive and make the festival grand.
