A joint team of Delhi and Goa units of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has reportedly scanned through various locations in Goa as a part of searches in 20 states in connection with two cases of circulation of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) online as part of 'Operation Meghachakra'. It is learnt that Goa has reported cases of sexual abuse among minors in the past which has even led to arrests. The leads provided by the intelligence squad indicate that Goa could have been one of the hubs to exploit children including girls. Pornography and pornographic imagery has infiltrated the masses where everyone has free access to it through mobile and internet technology. The newly passed Information Technology Bill is set to make it illegal to not only create and transmit child pornography in any electronic form, but even to browse it and can attract five years in jail and a fine of Rs 10 lakh. The menace of child pornography can be tackled only if individuals inculcate the right values. If it is a fact that child pornography is raising its ugly head in Goa, then the menace needs to be nipped in the bud.
