The rate at which the number of people testing Covid positive daily in Goa and those dying, is far from encouraging, and a sad reflection of the Goa govt’s poor handling of the second wave of the pandemic.
It is more than a month since curfew was imposed in the State, with restrictions on people’s movement and the opening of shops and restaurants. Yet, the Covid positivity rate in Goa stands at an alarming rate of 12% with around 450 persons testing positive daily.
This by any reckoning is high, given that Goa is a tiny state and the country’s positivity average today stands at 4.5%.
Mumbai, Pune and Delhi have achieved excellent results after being among the few hotspots in the country with very high rate of infections.
In such a bleak scenario how can we in Goa ever think of opening up tourism and the hospitality industry and other crowd pulling places early, unless we achieve a target of a positivity rate below 5% and those testing positive, around 5-10 daily. We need to learn from past mistakes.
