Third wave: Are we in safe hands?

The third wave preparedness must start with key objectives. Saving lives must be top of the list. The key decisions must come from the task force that the government has formed.

Such a group formed must be independent of the government just like the judiciary in a democracy. If this group colludes with the government then lives will be lost.

In Goa, the task force looks like is working with the objective of appeasing the government. They are allowing the government to avoid doing the difficult tasks and concentrating on easy ones.

Dengue cases are on the rise in Vasco. Soon, other places will show the same. This will overload the testing laboratories and doctors. The task force must advise the government that all the 40 MLAs should be entrusted with the task of controlling malaria and dengue in their constituencies.

It’s time all the MLAs show some concern instead of just attacking each other for their failures.

It would be interesting to know how many MLAs have initiated fumigation, removal of stagnated water, introduction of larvae eating fish in ponds etc in their constituencies.

The task force has an onerous task. We all know this. The public are looking up to them. But we are not at all comfortable with the way things are shaping up.

As Martin Luther King Jr said “there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe nor politic nor popular, but he must do it because conscience tells him it is right”.

Not the way oxygen was ‘rationed’ at the GMC just to make oxygen last! That was their first time. They have another chance.

It was sad to read in the…
