A group of fanatics belonging to some right-wing organisations were seen creating a ruckus recently near the frontispiece of the old Sancoale Church under flimsy excuses and asking the government not to allow the Church to hold the annual novenas and feast of St Joseph Vaz (the novenas of which have now already commenced on January 7 and the feast which will be celebrated on January 16) at the archaeological site this year by again claiming that it was/is still a Hindu site.
Well, where were these people all these years and how come they came to know that this particular site is a Hindu site and that too only after the Church started conducting the annual novenas and feast of St Joseph Vaz in recent years at this archaeological site at Sancoale? And even if the protected site near the frontispiece of the old Sancoale church is a Hindu site, then how come the local Hindus from the same area have still not bothered to come out with such similar claims/demands to reclaim that particular site?
The reason why the fanatics are heard confidently asking the government to carry out the excavation of the old Sancoale Church site is because they know that they can send their own hired people in the middle of the night and illegally dump/bury religious idols at the site to corroborate their story as true.
Goans should unitedly come together on one single platform at the very earliest and do a 'tadipaar' of such divisive elements for habitually eyeing the religious structures/properties/sites of others based on their own imaginary fictitious past stories/dreams and for deliberately trying to disturb the centuries-old communal harmony in Goa to further their communal agendas in the State.
