The editorial ' Neglected safety at Porvorim reeks of callousness' (TGE, Dec 2), has rightly highlighted the added risks and dangers to life by driving on the dusty and badly battered track , where a steel rod from one of the columns of the under construction elevated corridor went flying and pierced the wind screen of a car. The utter negligence of the contractor and supervisors needs to be condemned in the strongest possible terms and those responsible penalised without further delay. Apparently, it is the first of its kind in Goa which is not new to works of such importance and magnitude, involving highways and bridges. If corrective action is not taken in time , we may soon be required to wear a helmet in the car as well, to save our precious lives. What a shame .
