Two incidents of impersonation have come to light wherein impersonators have been apprehended while answering the tests for the candidates at the CSIR National Institute of Oceanography, Dona Paula. Impersonation in government job exams is a serious offence.
Impersonation is a cognisable offence, and depending on the jurisdiction and the nature of the exam, legal action can be initiated, including fines and imprisonment. Institutions often ban individuals caught impersonating from participating in future exams or other academic activities. Biometric identification such as fingerprint scanning, facial recognition, or other biometric methods needs to be in place to verify candidate identity. Robust security measures need to be in place to detect and prevent such malpractices, thereby ensuring a fair and transparent recruitment process.
