Over the past 24 hours Goa has conducted 8,154 tests of which 2,476 returned positive, the highest single day spike in the past eight months at a record breaking 30.37% +vity. What is worse is that 25 doctors at GMC, our frontline Corona warriors have tested positive ; effectively the largest hospital in the state is working at 2/3 capacity which doesn't bode well for the future battle against Covid. The all India NEET PG counselling is expected to take two weeks and it will be another 25 days before new first year junior residents join duty. The delay by the Centre in carrying out placements in time is almost criminal considering the times we live in. The exponential rise in cases has placed immense burden on the doctors who to their credit are doing double duty without any incentives or waivers forthcoming from the state. Currently hospitalisation numbers are low and the medicos have been somehow managing the situation but the forthcoming tidal wave of hospital admissions could soon overwhelm the system and we might see a repeat of the Covid 2.0 catastrophe, thanks in no small measure to an inept Centre.
