IT behemoths or cybercoolies?

Our ministers lament the fact that Indian IT companies are building grocery and food delivery apps while the world is locked on Artificial Intelligence. Sadly, no Indian IT company is willing to work on projects that do not offer immediate returns.

Behemoths like TCS, Infosys, Wipro and HCL are sitting on mountains of cash but won’t venture into uncharted territory; they are happy boosting profits off labour arbitrage.

Google, Meta, Microsoft and other tech giants are petitioning their governments for dedicated nuclear energy plants to feed their power-guzzling AI development computers.

Will the Indian government set up a nuclear power plant for IT companies, should one step into the realms of AI development? No.

The Indian IT industry is basically coolie work; the builder.ai scandal has further tarnished our image as an IT powerhouse. The leaders that we have in the IT field and in the government lack vision and have zero risk-taking ability. It does appear as if we will remain cybercoolies to the world for a long time to come.
