It's a pity people remain spectators of defections

The recent political development in the state has once again proved that citizens become sheer spectators whenever there is some dramatic change in the political set-up. It appears that once the citizens cast their votes their job is over as those who get elected run the government as per their whims and fancies and the common man has no say. Even though most Goans are angry and frustrated over the political development when 8 MLAs defected, there seems to be very little they can do. There have been calls from certain quarters for the public to have a peaceful and silent protest outside the residences of those 8 MLAs who have defected to the ruling party and even question them over their sudden change of heart. It is said that in a democracy the voice of the people is supreme. But it seems that every time the people raise their voice it is scuttled by using government controlled machinery. When politicians can fool people they can see they probably feel that they can also fool God whom they cannot see. God save democracy.
