Mormugao civic body’s drive against abandoned vehicles needs to be applauded.
Hundreds of such vehicles are lying abandoned on the roads for years together with no authority coming forward to clear this eyesore.
These vehicles are also occupying a lot of space thereby denying parking space to others. The MMC needs to continue its drive against such vehicles until all such vehicles are disposed off for scrap.
The Mormugao civic body should also go a step ahead and identify the owners with the help of RTO and penalize them.
Apart from this, MMC needs to install proper sign boards and signals to tackle the rising traffic problem in the city.
Another issue is that MMC should take note of the rent-a-bikes that are parked permanently on the roads. These bikes also occupy a lot of space thereby denying others of parking in the city.
It is time other civic bodies in the State follow the example of MMC and crack down on abandoned vehicles in their jurisdiction.
