Govt steps in to tackle traffic jams near schools

The State government stepped with multiple measures to tackle traffic snarls on roads around school campuses across North Goa notifying areas where stopping vehicles will be banned, roads designated as one-ways and diversion of heavy vehicles to alternate routes.

North Goa Collector has notified these measures in three talukas of Tiswadi, Bardez and Bicholim and will be in force during an hour at school opening and closing time -- 7 am to 8 am and 12.30 pm to 2 pm.

In Panaji, at Sharada Mandir School, Miramar, the stretch of road from the Miramar traffic island circle to Martins beach corner has been notified as “No Entry for Heavy vehicles” and they will be diverted to the internal road via Dhempe College, Adharsh Colony up to the Dona Paula circle and vice-versa.

Also, at the area near Auxilium High School in Taleigao and St Minguel High School in Taleigao, the stretch road notified as “No Entry for Heavy vehicles” is from Blue Hotel, Adarsh Circle and at Oitem junction. Heavy vehicles are to be diverted via Miramar Dhempe College-Adarsh circle-old Dona Paula Road and Goa University.

In Bardez at St Clara’s High School, Assonora and St Ann’s Blooming Buds School, Cansa-Tivim, the stretch of road from Cansa Market to Assonora Market is notified as “No Entry for Heavy vehicles” and they will be diverted via Cansa Market-Advalpal-Moitem.   

In Aldona, at the St Thomas Boys High School, and St Thomas Girls High School, the stretch road from the Corjuem Bridge to Belekar Open Air Hall, Moira has been notified as "No Entry for Heavy vehicles” and the heavy vehicles will be diverted from Corjuem Bridge on the Corjuem side and from Belekar Open Air Hall, Moira.

Similarly, in Siolim at St Francis Xavier School, the stretch road from Burye junction to Siolim Church junction will be debarred for heavy vehicles and diverted to the road from Marna-Siolim road and Old Theatre junction to the Siolim Bridge.

In Bicholim at Shri Shantadurga Primary and High School, the stretch road from Valshi Bicholim to Sarvan will not be permitted for use by heavy vehicles which will be diverted along the road from ITI Valshi Bicholim; Sarvan to Valshi Bicholim. There will also be diversion of vehicles to the road from Zantye College.

On the Mayem side mine junction (Vedanta Mine Bicholim) to Shantadurga junction, Bicholim, diversion of heavy vehicles will be from Vedanta Mine junction. 

For the Sarvan to CHC Sankhali stretch, diversion will be from Zantye college.

Similarly, at Hedgewar Primary School and High School Karapur-Sarvan the stretch of road from Dattawadi to Sarvan Bicholim will be debarred for heavy vehicles which will have to take the road from Keri/Parye/Morlem side towards Honda. 

For the CHC Sankhali to Sarvan Bicholim stretch, diversion of heavy vehicles will be from Amona towards Honda and traffic coming from Honda side towards Amona.
