South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha's recent media statement, "Te beshte bhonvtai, haanv kaam kotta," rings hollow. This tired refrain, promising salvation and protection for Goa, has worn thin with the people of South Goa. Schoolchildren raised on his name through books and media are now disillusioned. It's understandable that after long years of service, one might be weary and ready to retire.
These "old uncles" slumbering in parliament, merely passing time and enjoying government perks, have done little for Goa or its people. They disappear for four years, only to resurge like monsoon frogs during election season.
This isn't just a Congress problem. All parties, BJP included, need to stop fielding these "good-for-nothing" uncle candidates. People's faith in Congress is waning due to the "jumping chicken" and horse-trading culture. Voting for Congress only to see them defect to the BJP for monetary gain or power is disheartening.
Congress' internal squabbles and party-hopping have decimated them across India. Their erratic behaviour renders them unfit even for the opposition. Meanwhile, the BJP capitalises on their absence, pushing through legislation unchallenged. They thrive on unopposed rule, shaping laws to their own advantage.
Change is imperative. People must resist the lure of "curse money" offered by politicians. Stop being complicit in this corruption.
