Utility of AI traffic cameras: Deterrent of for mere show?

Artificial intelligence (AI) cameras have been installed in many Goan cities and on highways, but are they properly maintained under expert supervision? Or are they merely for show or publicity? This question arises due to several instances, one of which being Corlim-Ilhas, where AI cameras are installed near a cross-junction but concerns surround the functionality of these cameras. Despite their presence, police officers are often seen issuing on-the-spot challans for helmetless driving and other offences. This is particularly puzzling considering the location being an accident-prone zone where lives have been tragically lost.

The public rightly questions the authenticity of these AI cameras. Are they just ornamental, functional for a brief period, or deliberately kept inactive? The relevant government department should investigate and address these concerns. Why are the cameras not functioning, and why haven't they been repaired? Their inactive state contributes to several accidents, ranging from minor to fatal, as traffic congestion caused by on-site challaning further compounds the issue.
