Maintaining punctuality in college

In the last few days a video of the security guard of a college allegedly collecting Rs.50 at the gate in order to allow entry to late comers went viral on Social Media. It is learnt that the management of the college has stated that this exercise was only initiated to instill discipline and punctuality among the student community. The parents too were reportedly informed about the issue and only then it was implemented. This step has resulted in students coming on time so that they can maintain 75 percent of attendance as per University rules.

It must be said that this is a novel way to make students fall in line as far as punctuality is concerned. In the past students who came late to school were made to stand outside the class as a punishment. Such a step will not work in a college.

So the best way to maintain punctuality among students is to make them feel the pinch by making them pay a penalty for coming late. Not allowing latecomers to enter the classroom will only reflect on their attendance.
