The NGTruling to demolish all structures -- permanent or temporary -- violating CRZlaws is welcome. Last year 488 structures were razed, including those withinthe 200 m HTL. The ruling is good for the turtles and also for other marinelife. We also need animals like leopards and tigers to keep our forests vibrantand the biological chain robust. At all costs, we need our forest cover inMollem. The Centre is trying to lower the HTL to 50 m. Laws are being changedat the right time to benefit the right people. If the laws are changed, thenstructures will come up once again. NGT works within the purviews of the law,so once the laws are changed the tribunal will become helpless. Punjab hasenacted four Bills to counter the Central anti-farmer laws. We need that here.We need a local Bill to maintain 500 m HTL. And we must do it now. Preventionis better than cure.
