Misuse of uniform: Time to hold offenders accountable

A police inspector of the Konkan Railway Police Station, who was arrested by the Directorate of Vigilance's Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) for allegedly extorting and accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a meat trader, has now reportedly moved a bail application before the Sessions Court in Margao.

According to reports, the officer has previously faced legal scrutiny. Given the officer’s prior legal history, there are concerns about the potential misuse of authority and the impact such cases may have on the public image of the police force. Strict disciplinary action should be taken if the allegations are proven true, to uphold accountability within the department. Such officers should not be allowed to make a comeback under any circumstances.
