It is welcome news that Mapusa has another open space available for paid parking. However, the display board does not mention whether this parking facility is privately operated or managed by the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC).
The rates printed on the bill issued by the ticket collector appear misleading and disadvantageous to car owners. The collector charges Rs 50, which is valid for 24 hours ” amounting to Rs 2 per hour. Yet, most people visiting the popular Mapusa market complete their shopping within 3“4 hours. Why, then, should they be made to pay the full 24-hour fee? Can the MMC clarify this issue?
Meanwhile, large commercial buildings continue to be approved without adequate parking provisions.
The Town and Country Planning Department, MMC, and the Government must ensure that every new development includes sufficient parking for the public ” otherwise, what purpose do the Urban Development and TCP ministries serve?
