This is to express deep disappointment at the government’s increasingly autocratic behaviour and its troubling pattern of awarding major infrastructure projects to select individuals or groups. In Goa, the Rs 550 crore flyover project near Dabolim Airport has drawn serious allegations of corruption and misrepresentation. Many believe it was designed to facilitate coal and cargo transport rather than ease local traffic congestion.
Equally alarming is the proposed railway double-tracking project through the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary and Mollem National Park, which has provoked widespread protests. Both projects exemplify the government’s disregard for the environment and citizens’ welfare in favour of vested interests.
It is time all citizens to recognize these threats and demand transparency and accountability from elected representatives. Prioritizing corporate profits over people and the planet will only lead to environmental destruction, devastating floods, and long-term harm to our communities.
It is time to stand united in defense of Goa’s ecology, heritage, and the democratic values that protect them.
