Narendra Modi has gone and done it again with gaffes galore lately. First was when he felt miffed when a cabinet Minister of the South African government came to receive him when he arrived for the BRICS summit at Johannesburg and Modi preferred to stay put in the plane until the Vice President of South Africa arrived.
Second was with our most intractable enemy, that is China. The bilateral meeting requested by China was converted to an exercise of one-upmanship where Modi seemed to have jumped the gun in talking to Xi in the Leader’s Lounge at the BRICS summit based on this pending request. This has led to controversy as to who called for the meeting and what was said.
The third gaffe was that we have Modi flying in from Greece on his way back from the BRICS summit direct to Bengaluru reaching there at 6 am. Not having the senior persons like the CM or Dy CM there to receive him, Modi has to concoct a story that he had requested them not to come to the airport because it was so early in the morning. While the Karnataka government put out a statement that the PM had clearly asked the CM and Dy CM not to come to the airport. This was reportedly because Modi was upset that the Karnataka CM had gone to ISRO at Bengaluru before him and congratulated the engineers on the success of the Chandrayaan 3 mission.
