Chowgule college celebrates World Goa Day

PANAJI: The Department of Hospitality and Tourism at Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science celebrated World Goa Day on August 24. The event focused on honouring the rich culture, history and traditions of Goa, while offering the audience a blend of entertainment and informative insights of Goa.

The event was hosted by students, Muriel Travasso and Lichard Fernandes. The chief guests for the event were Cdr. Parijat Sinha (retd), Provost, the management representative and Meghana Devli, the Dean of the college.

The event kicked off with the Goan folk dance ‘Dulpod’, with dancers dressed in traditional attire capturing the spirit of joy and unity that these dances symbolise.

This was followed by a group performance of a song about Goa and tasting of traditional Goan sweets like Sannas, Dodol, Doce by the guests that the students had presented.

The students later staged a fashion show featuring various Goan characters and traditions such as the Goan Podder, a fisherman and the traditional dress called the ‘Saddo’.

The last performance was a collaboration of the Corridinho dance and a comedy Konkani skit which was a short representation of Goan Konkani Tiatrs. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Lawrie Colaco.

Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda entered enter the semi-finals of the 48th Seamen Football tournament after defeating Guardian Angel Sports Club 6-5.Both teams dished out good brand of football from the word go to the delight of large number of spectators.
