The GSPCB has decided to make it mandatory for all commercial establishments in Goa (especially in North Goa coastal villages) to have the sewage treatment Plants (STPs) fitted with online monitoring system as reported in local newspapers on May 27. The GSPCB is a paper tiger. Its objective is to extort money from all commercial establishments/industrialists to protect water and air from pollution. Anjuna village is still reeling under siege of noise pollution with no e-monitoring system in place as promised before the High Court. Now they have decided to monitor water pollution by e-monitoring system at the cost of exchequer. The entire North Goa coastal belt is sitting on sewage bomb and the present STP is shut down for discharging raw sewage into the Baga river . A paint factory waste sediments have destroyed drinking water wells on the leeward side of hill of Gauravaddo, Calangute. The GSPCB is fully aware of these developments and turning blind eye while giving consent to operate the commercial establishments. The consent under Air Act, 1981 and Water Act, 1974 is license to pollute our environment.
