Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, a study has shown that at least 54 per cent working Indians said that they love working from home (WFH) of which 34 percent are even willing to take a 10 per cent salary cut to work from their home indefinitely. The study has also revealed that 56 percent Indians believe that their productivity levels have increased significantly since they began working from home due to the national lockdown.
It must be said that WFH has several advantages. It offers flexibility. The employees are more creative and focused early in the morning. The workers can set their own hours for office work which can deliver more productive work for the company. Working from home can save time and money spent in commuting to and from the office every single day.
WFH can also be less stressful. However the concept can lead to unmonitored performance and frequent breaks. There is also lack of team work and probably lack of motivation. WFH may not be ideal for repetitive work like data entry as the employee will be distracted at home.
It is learnt that in Goa WFH can also mean 'Work From Hotel'. This has given rise to a new concept called “Workcation” - combining work with vacation. All said and done it seems that the concept of ‘Work From Home’ is here to stay as a result of the pandemic.
