‘United We Stand Divided We Fall’, so true is the saying. If we Goans had only stood firmly to this saying Goa today would not be in the morass as we are in today and sinking into the abyss of corruption and crime. Divided we were intentionally created by the first government in place post-Liberation from the Portuguese.
Liberation is independence and freedom from the clutches of absolute dictatorial power. Independence is about a free people and culture, having an able educated administration intelligent enough to set priorities for the people and their culture from time to time. Not every state in India had the basics like the State of our tiny Goa where all the laws and registrars were in place. The Comunidade systems was the best system in place that needed to be regulated and controlled for the benefit of the State.
Unfortunately, look at our Goa today so small that it is with a population of 15 lakhs and yet in disarray. This divided population has created enormous social and economic problems in the State. We have the necessary systems in place but the functioning is questionable. If only the people had in unity and unanimously got together to take on the politicians and the Bureaucracy for all the corruption and illegal activities Goans would be in a much better position today. Collectively Goans could set an example to the rest of the country as being a no-nonsense State.
Another disturbing factor is the divided families who spare no effort to ruin their kith and kin on flimsy matters in settling their ancestral property matters. Why on earth can we not agree to share amicably what the ancestors left the generations without enjoying their lives.
