These days we see the government on an inauguration spree unveiling various projects like new bridges, markets and taking up road works at a breakneck speed.
This generally happens during election time, but the government should also make provision for maintenance.
A case in point is the new Atal Setu Bridge. The cost has overshot the estimate thereby causing a huge burden to the taxpayer. Worse still there are flaws in the design of the bridge and now the repairs will further put a burden the taxpayer.
The point is if the government has too much money to start new projects how come there is no money for maintenance and up keep of existing infrastructure?
Or it is that the percentage commissions to ruling politicians are way much higher for new infrastructure compared to existing infrastructure?
