It can be rightly said that the surge in the number of Covid cases in the country can be attributed largely to the local population and the large number of tourists, who have thrown caution to the winds.
In Goa we too are witnessing a galloping rise in Covid cases and for this, the Goa government is equally to be blamed for its lackadaisical attitude in restraining the influx of tourists.
The damage done could well have been contained had the government imposed a night curfew during the Christmas fortnight. However, it was not to be, as wisdom ordained it otherwise, giving precedence to tourism over the lives of the people.
The Election Commission has now sprung into action by imposing a ban on public rallies, roadshows and meetings till January 15 to contain the spread of the virus.
Never too late it seems, though it appears to be more like closing the doors after the horses have bolted.
