Recently, the roads in Vasco have been designated as NH366. The roads connecting Vasco city from Cortalim were previously NH17A. However, in a recent development, Swatantrapath road in Vasco city has been notified as NH366. Another important road is FL Gomes road, which also connects Vasco city. Both of these roads were well planned during the Portuguese rule, and the existence of parallel roads, Swatantrapath road and FL Gomes road, has been instrumental in managing traffic flow and resolving parking issues. These roads facilitate the smooth movement of buses, private cars, and two-wheelers within the city.
The notification designating this road as NH366 will result in heavy vehicles from Mormugao port being used for coal transportation. Currently, the people of Vasco are already suffering from respiratory issues and breathing problems, and this change will introduce more pollution to the city. Moreover, it will negatively impact the day-to-day business of small traders along Swatantrapath road.
The issuance of this notification has not taken public opinion into account and goes against the public interest. The government should reconsider this decision to make the city pollution-free
