National Medical Council (NMC) finds inadequate faculty in medical colleges in India. The reports say that inadequate faculty members or senior residents, and those colleges failed to meet the 50% attendance requirement. If so why permission was granted by the NMC to all these colleges in the first place. Maintaining the quality of medical education in india is important for safeguarding health of people. The recently updated norms prescribed by NMC for exclusion of ‘Emergency Medicine’ studies for undergraduate admissions in new medical colleges should be redressed. NMC has been consistently directing all medical colleges to take steps to implement Aadhaar Enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS), Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) and connect their CCTV feed to Command and Control Centre at NMC. Most of the private colleges are not rated and ranked in India, and only those institutions known for strong academic credentials volunteer for National Institutional Ranking Framework(NIRF). Currently, only government medical colleges are required to participate in the NIRF by the Union Education Ministry.
