Normal monsoon season expected in Goa this year

Amidst speculation that there is an unusual onset of monsoon in Goa, due to certain man made factors, it should be borne in mind that the vagaries of nature are not always predictable to a precise extent.

On July 7, it rained almost continuously from morning until afternoon and till now the rainfall received is about 40 inches. It would be seen that Goa is in for normal monsoon though the pattern may be a little different from last year, wherein it rained almost 90 inches in July alone.

With most of July and August still to come, we could receive at least about 110 to 120 inches of rainfall this monsoon.

In Valpoi alone on June 22, it rained 258.7 mm which is about 10 inches and thus it goes on to prove that there is vigour in the monsoon in Goa.

Goa also having a relatively long coast line, it would be prudent to expect that barring some anomalies, normal rainfall in Goa is expected this year despite the possibilities of some climatic aberrations.
