It is observed that invariably any project that is planned for Goa is opposed on grounds of ecology, environment, losing ancestral land property, cultivation, old tradition, flooding and such pretty reasons. The classic example if one can recollect is of Konkan Railway and see how each one is benefited now and it has been part of our life for travel, business etc. Similarly highways, stadiums, auditoriums, Mopa airport, mobile towers, etc. to name a few have been opposed and see the benefits we are enjoying at present.
The “opposing” has become a normal trend of Goans unlike the public in other parts of the country. It is seen vested interests for grabbing land at cheap rates, are instigating the public and luring them with short term benefits of beer, biryani and bag. Unfortunately, even elected representatives instead of convincing, persuading and making aware of long term benefits to the public is adding fuel to the situation and in turn losing out many developmental projects.
The media is also giving wide exposure for such instances. This type of trend is turning a curse to the Goans by forcing them to think for themselves only and remain “susegad” at the cost of progress of the State and upliftment of our future generation.
