Two days back Margao city saw the collapse of slabs and concrete of age old buildings located in the market. Both the buildings cried for attention and municipality also issued notice to the tenants in Dias building opp Pimpal Katta. Another building located next to Cine Lata also saw slabs and concrete structures falling down. In both cases no casualties reported but vehicles were damaged. In other cities like Vasco, Panaji and Ponda we have old buildings too. Government should carry out structural audit of all such old buildings both commercial and residential housing coop societies. Only an audit by engineers will give clear picture of the status of such age old buildings. Municipality have engineers and even PWD engineers, who can be used with help of architects to get clear report. Quick action and repairs are the need of hour. It's now between owners and tenants to arrive at some consensus and take proper action to prevent further damage or rebuild buildings with proper plan. Since market located buildings are busy areas with lots of people around more care should be taken to prevent serious accidents.
