Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) Dy Chairperson Laxuman Pagui submitted his resignation on Tuesday.
The move is, however, part of mutual understanding to rotate the posts of Chairperson and Dy Chairperson among the seven members of the ruling dispensation in the 12-member council.
Palolem councillor Laxuman alias Bakal Pagui quit the post on completion of his one-year tenure, becoming the second councillor to resign after Kindlem Councillor Amita Pagi who made way for him in this term.
Ponsulem Councillor Narscisco (Nadin) Fernandes is tipped to succeed Laxuman-Pagi as the third Dy Chairperson. Initially, Kindlem Councillor Amita Pagi was given the post of Dy Chairperson, followed by Laxuman (Bakal) Pagui.
Incidentally, keeping five of the seven councillors in the opposition, Palolem-Ourem Councillor Simon Rebello from the ruling group became the first to occupy the chairperson’s post, before handing over the charge to the present Chairperson and Chaudi ward councillor Ramakant Naikgaunkar.
According to sources, the post of CMC Chairperson is likely to be handed over to one more Councillor (Sara NaikDessai of Devabhaga Ward), while the post of Dy Chairperson after the agreed tenure of Narcisco Fernandes will be handed over to the remaining Councillor Gandesh Madgavkar of Rajbhag-Tarir.
