Those 30 new brooms elected to the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) have completed five months in office but our capital city is seeing no visible signs of change for the better. That entire pre-monsoon works have proved fruitless with all the flooding witnessed.
Panaji city which includes Ribandar sadly continues decaying due to sheer mismanagement. The very messy and stinking Panaji market continues in dire straits while the St Inez and Rua de Ourem creeks are a horrible eyesore. Our roads and footpaths need to be attended to. After paying exorbitant taxes the quality of life for the residents of Panaji had to improve but people now have to even pay steep fees to park their vehicles. The city’s gardens and parks are also in a despicable state. The coffers of the CCP which should have actually been overflowing continue to be willfully emptied.
Unless there is transparency and accountability in the working of the CCP with zero tolerance to any scams, the city will languish in decay, now with a mayor for whom sadly the priority has been to lavishly renovate his office instead of first providing better amenities for the city.
