It is disheartening to see that the village Panchayat office members in Goa, whom we elected to address the concerns and development of villagers, are openly supporting outsiders rather than their own Goans who were born and raised in the village. The secretary, sarpanch, and other Panchayat members seem deeply involved in activities driven by greed, prioritising monetary gains over the welfare of the village and its people. They appear to work together, much like some politicians and police, to manipulate situations in their favour. This is one of the main reasons why many citizens of India lack trust in such institutions.
The greed for money is destroying the peaceful environment and harmonious atmosphere in Goan villages. Intimidation and misuse of power have taken over our land. Instead of supporting Goans who are fighting to protect their villages and the essence of Goa, the police and Panchayat office seem to be shielding outsiders, arresting and harassing locals who stand up for their rights.
Justice is being denied to Goans, while a few locals, driven by personal gains, are using intimidation to silence those who speak out for Goa. The village Panchayat offices and police departments are abusing their powers by working against their own people. They seem more focused on protecting those who break laws rather than supporting those with legitimate documents.
If this behaviour continues, it won’t be long before outsiders dominate our village Panchayat offices and take control of us, as we are already witnessing in some areas. Goans are facing challenges in every Panchayat area, and these offices are failing to serve their true purpose. This needs to change to safeguard Goa and its people.
